Juk gets basic support for MusicBrainz. KStars adds the solar system. An Avahi-based reimplementation of libkdnssd for distributions that don't like APSL-licensed mdnsd daemon. Outline of a brush is now drawn when moving it over the canvas in Krita. A spiffy, new, improved Konqueror throbber rolls into action. Refactoring: Scons/bksys build system, new layout for modules, Kat merging into part of Tenor.

Konqueror defaults to "smart" popup blocking. KTouch adds a russian keyboard and training file. New nxfish ioslave which allows sharing between local NX Client and the remote NX server without requiring Samba. Wallpapers and background tiles were "cleaned up" for the 3.5 release.

KTuberling gets Serbian sounds. Configuring backgrounds per display in Xinerama implemented. SoC projects progress. Speech Recognition (for hot-keys) merges into KDE 3.5. Webcam support for MSN in Kopete. Kate adds syntax highlight support for /etc/fstab, /etc/mtab files... Rejoice!

DigiKam adds an image editor plugin to remove "Hot Pixels" on photographs. Krita adds an OpenEXR import filter. Krita adds support for working with high dynamic range images such as 32-bit floating point RGBA colourspace. KSpread gets a new function manager and repository (a Google SoC project). Allow setting the wallpaper via DnD, even when icons on desktop are disabled. Media kioslave implements the autostart of application after mount. KMail now has Online/Offline status. amaroK adds podcast support within the playlist browser.

KTracer, a realtime execution path tracer was committed to kdenonbeta. Kexi can save table design changes, and the MySQL driver was reintroduced. KFormDesigner, part of Kexi, is now a KPart. Krita adds dynamic brush scaling. KdeTV includes a number of new filters: color inversion, chromakill, mirror image, sharpness. Kifi now shows found network details in real time.

Many changes in KDE-PIM; gpgme now used in KMail. Knode integration in Kontact completed. A KPilot plugin for Kontact. IMAP addressbook resources, used in Kolab, is complete. And an initial version of a PIM configuration wizard. In Kexi, read-write queries are supported and dragging relations together now works. An KJSEmbed envelopemaker example is available. FileLight can be used in Konqueror. And the usual bugfixes.

In KMail, the beginnings of spam filtering. New version of the SSLIODevice and SSLServerSocket code. A alpha version of Debian KDE LiveCD was imported. Speedups in Khtml and KJS. And many bugfixes.

Java binding now generated by build process. You can now mount KIO slaves with the fuse_kio module. Karbon now has snap to grid and curve smoothing. Initial import of the new Theme Manager. You can now create application configuration files with KConfEdit.

KImageMapEditor, an HTML image map editor is now part of Quanta. KConfedit now supports editing remote KDE configurations over a network. KChart gets update from KD Chart. Kapture, an APT frontend for KDE and KDebconf, a Debian configuration front-end, were imported into the repository.

ARts adds Media Application Server output support. Kdevelop adds Haskell and Mozilla XUL language support. Kstars supports electrical telescope focusers. Security fixes for Kdm. Kaddressbook has phone calling support. Spell checking support in Koffice is complete, and improved elsewhere. The Kitchensync plugin is added to Kontact. Korganizer printing system is improved. Safari render_layer code is ported to khtml. More new crystalsvg icons. Improvements for running KDE on laptops. And a huge number of bug fixes.

Kstars is using a new free star map, and telescope interface is improved with wizards. KGhostview (pdf viewer) now has a thumbnail preview. A new Khotkeys is in the works. Korganizer is improved with work on drag and drop, alarms and todo lists. The trash icon is cleaned up. Khtml caret navigation is almost completed. The KDE dialogs can now be used by non-KDE applications.

Kooka, the KDE scanning application, now supports ocrad, a GPL OCR engine. Juk gets a history playlist feature, along with some serious optimizations. Kmenu, the Kmail address selection dialog, Korganizer and Ksnapshot get usability improvements. Kstars has added the capability to generate a skymap from the commandline. And many bugfixes in Koffice, Kate and Kopete.

Kolab client is nearing release. Klaviatura, a simple experimental on-screen keyboard/accessibility concept was added. Kdevelop cvs service is improved. Kivio gets loads of new stencils. Konqueror now can create a bookmark folder from open tabs, and now opens a page in a new tab when called from other applications. The Yahoo and Jabber IM protocols are improved in Kopete. Multimedia gets some attention, with fixes to arts and artsbuilder. KGhostview now has a full screen mode. Work starts on bidi mode for Kate. Cervisia, the gui frontend for cvs, now has a SSH password authentication dialog. Kmail encryption plugins and imap support is improved. Plus bug fixes and improvements in Kopete, Khtml, Kwin and many others.

K3b, one of the Kde CD writing applications, has started work on dvd writing. Continued fixes and improvements to Kwin. And more bug fixes.

We see new Kontact plugins for summary, notes and newsticker. Koffice has improved import and export filters, plus template loading from the command line. An improvement in speed for Konqueror file and image viewing. Also, KDE crash handler Dr Konqi hooks to Kdevelop for debugging. Improvements to Kdeprint, KGhostview, and user interface cleanups. And numerous bug fixes.

Improvements and bugfixes to the new tab code used in Konqueror and now Quanta. Numerous usability enhancements in Kmail, easier keyboard shortcut editing, flickering toolbars fixed. Kdeprint gets a new PPD parser. Kstars hardware interface is extended. And many bug fixes throughout.

Menu usability gets improved. Kdeprint gets printer capability access, and quite a few bug fixes. Kate now has command line access to variables, similar to vim commands or emacs local variables. Plus numerous fixes to keyboard handling, Kspread and Konqueror.

KOffice developers add a number of templates to Kspread, and work towards Excel compatibility. KStars now has interface to telescope hardware. Kwin and Kdesktop fine tuning continues. Work continues on freedesktop.org standards implementation.

KBugBuster can now read most Bugzilla sites. The integration of Kafka (wysiwyg html editor) with Quanta begins. A new KSplash is introduced, KSpread gets some serious optimizations.

Many improvements in the development tools this week. In Kdevelop, work continues on code completion and new code templates. Quanta gets ktips and finishing polishes. Kate, Cervisia, KBabel and Umbrello continue to get better. Support for new XFree86 features are being implemented. And nothing like a gathering of developers to improve the games!

Work continues on the Kde Personal Information Manager and Koffice. Filters to interoperate with other applications and formats such as Outlook Express, OOImpress, MSWrite, rtf and ApplixGraphics were improved. Plus the continuing improvements to Konqueror, Kopete and many others.

Is the 3.1 the ultimate in KDE? The end of development? Not from looking at the commits for this week. Some of the less trivial fixes from Apple are getting applied to Konqueror. The user interface continues to be refined. The Kde PIM project and all it's parts are a beehive of activity. Utilities such as K3b and Cdbakeoven are actively worked on. I'm already impatient for 3.2!

Kaplan was renamed Kontact, which is a personal information management application for KDE that integrates KMail, KAddressBook, KOrganizer, and other applications. As part of the integration, Kmail has moved to kdepim. Khtml continues to improve and benefit from the Apple Safari work. The KOffice filters continue to be improved, and a VCard parser was added to Kdepim.

VFolder support, bugfixes in Konqueror, some security fixes. The first commits for Kaplan started coming in, the Kmail merges from the different branches are finally coming together.
