Subversion again. The change to Subversion still hasn't happened. What is happening?

Stephan Kulow started a thread entitles SVN timing again. The thread starts with this question: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-core-devel&m=111306926528528&w=2
The only thing holding SVN conversion currently is the fact that we can't track reliably server side moves.

Me and many others aired the opinion, that we lived so far without tracked server side moves and won't miss it in the future - on the other hand it delays the move to subversion where we can move easily.

So my question is: is there demand from kde-core-devel to wait more for Ossi to finish that feature or do you prefer to skip that and go to subversion right away.

What is server side move tracking? Stephan explains:
No, I'm talking about the cvs server here. Moves (or better copies) we've done in the past on the cvs server to work around the inabilty of cvs to track moves in the client. Oswald wants the cvs2svn conversion to detect these and create svn moves for the past.

Oswald Buddenhagen explains further:
it means that you will be able to checkout, for example, kdebase/kdm from 2001-10-01 and will get a clean copy. try this today. generally speaking, this "send a copy request to the cvs admins"-type of moving files makes a royal mess of any checkout with a past timestamp. not exactly helpful for those who really want to do some research.

On Thursday the 14th, Stephan Kulow wrote this message:
OK, after watching your progress so far I'm deciding this: you have till saturday 10pm CEST. At that time I want a version in CVS that is able to create a working subversion tree. I don't care how much hacks you have to put in there and how many files you have to black list. If your version is able to replay only 50% of the moves: I don't care.

Every day we do not move, more people will commit into SVN thinking it's already done and more people will get angry because they still can't move their files around and more people will get be holded away from importing their apps into CVS. Saturday is my last word - you're free to hate me, but your original question was if I'm fine with a one week delay if you start working on it and wouldn't be able to finish in time. Saturday is 16 days behind the original march 31st and you're one day too much "almost done".

That from the horses mouth. CVS is active until you receive an email saying otherwise. Don't commit anything important to svn.kde.org until then.

The digiKam developers continue their torrid pace, and Gilles Caulier announced digiKam 0.7.3-beta1 is out for your image management pleasure.
The digiKam team is pleased to announce the new 0.7.3-beta1 release.

About digiKam

digiKam is a digital photograph management application for KDE, which makes importing and organizing digital photos a "snap". The photos can be organized in albums which can be sorted chronologically, by directory layout or by custom collections.
